More Information

The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) provides primary and secondary schools with funding to spend on targeted academic support, delivered by trained and experienced tutors and mentors.

There are 3 routes to providing subsidised tuition:

  • academic mentors– full-time, in-house staff members employed to provide intensive support to pupils who need it
  • tuition partners– tutors recruited by external tutoring organisations quality-assured by DfE
  • school-led tutoring – members of a school’s own personnel, either currently employed or specifically engaged for this purpose, including retired, returning or supply teachers, support staff, and others.

What does this look like at Pathways?

Here at Pathways, we have full time member of staff who has joined our team and become a school led tutor. Our tutor has completed the school led training and delivers 1:1 or small group sessions within the school day as well as after school for children from Y1 to Y6 in English or Mathematics. For EYFS pupils we are delivering speech and language sessions. The purpose of these is to enable children to reach their full potential by targeting key aspects of the curriculum.

The whole NTP programme is monitored and evaluated by school leaders to ensure our children have quality first tutoring which enables them to make at least good progress within and across the taught sessions.
